Thomas Symons arrives in South Australia from Cornwall and opens a small blacksmith shop in Rosewater, near Port Adelaide — just as the state declares itself the granary of the nation and agricultural export booms.
Thomas and son George launch Thomas Symons & Sons Carriers, transporting grain, timber and flour. Son Jack later renames it JT Symons Carriers and moves to Lipson Street, in the heart of Port Adelaide's bustling wharf district.
On 1 November, Alby Clark purchases the business and renames it Symons & Clark Transport. From a staff of seven drivers, one secretary and a timber-yard supervisor, it grows into a national operation.
The company outgrows Lipson Street and shifts to a 28-acre depot on Francis Street, Port Adelaide — close to South Australia's major shipping and intermodal hubs, and to Adelaide Airport.
Alby's sons Ricky and David and grandson Jason run a diverse operation — specialist heavy haulage and over-dimensional transport for mining and construction, a full customs- and quarantine-approved container park, warehousing and secure storage. 250+ staff, 100+ trucks, and 150 years of people-based problem solving.

A class 1.1 "Approved Arrangement" by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. Depot code S1803; licensed for prescribed export goods, depot code 4059.
